# Password & account security

Your MERIDIQ password protects clinical records, so it has to meet a few rules, and it has to be changed regularly. This page covers changing it, the 90-day expiry, and what happens when sign-in goes wrong.

| 📍 **Where to find this:** Click your **username** → **My profile** → **Change Password**

## ✅ What you can do

* Change your password from your profile
* Understand the password requirements before you are rejected
* Know what the expiry warning means and how long you have
* Understand account lockout and the code sent to your email

## 🔑 Change your password

1. Click your **username** → select **My profile**.
2. Click **Change Password** — opens the Change Password pop-up.
3. Enter your **Old Password**.
4. Enter your new **Password**.
5. Re-enter the new password to confirm.
6. Click **Update Password**.

||| ⚠️ Changing your password signs you out of MERIDIQ **everywhere else** — any other browser or device will need to sign in again. This is deliberate, so a password change locks out anyone who should no longer have access.

## 📋 Password requirements

| Rule | Detail |
| ---- | ---- |
| Length | At least **9 characters** |
| Lower case | At least one lower-case letter |
| Upper case | At least one upper-case letter |
| Number | At least one digit |
| Not your current one | The new password cannot match your old one |
| Not recently used | Your last **3** passwords are remembered and cannot be reused |

|| ℹ️ Messages you may see: **Password length must be greater then 8**, **Password must contain a lower case letter**, **Password must contain a upper case letter**, **Password must contain a number**, **Password not matched**, **Old password did not match**, **Old password and new password can not be the same**, and **Please choose a different password as the one provided has been previously used and cannot be used again.**

## ⏳ The 90-day password rule

Passwords expire **90 days** after you last changed them.

| When | What happens |
| ---- | ---- |
| 15 days before expiry | **Password is about to expire!** appears when you sign in, telling you how many days remain. You can choose **Remind me later**. |
| On expiry | **Password Expired** appears and cannot be dismissed — you must set a new password to keep using your account. |

|| ℹ️ **Remind me later** postpones the warning until your next sign-in, not for a fixed number of days. The reminder returns every time you log in until you change the password.

## 🔒 If you cannot sign in

| Situation | What happens |
| ---- | ---- |
| Wrong password | After **3** failed attempts your account locks for **1 minute**, then you can try again. |
| Signing in from a new device | MERIDIQ may email you a one-time code to enter. Tick **Don't ask again on this device** to skip it on that device in future. |
| Code did not arrive | You can request a new code after a short wait — check your spam folder first. |
| Forgotten password | Use the **Forgot Password** link on the sign-in page. The reset link is valid for **60 minutes**. |

|| ℹ️ For your own protection MERIDIQ does not confirm whether an email address has an account — the reset screen gives the same message either way.

## 🚪 Being signed out

| Message | Why |
| ---- | ---- |
| **You've been logged out** | Your session ended — usually because you signed in somewhere else, or your password was changed or reset. |
| Signed out without warning | Sessions end automatically after a period of inactivity. Sign in again to continue. |

|| ℹ️ There is no list of active devices or sessions in MERIDIQ, and no "sign out everywhere" button. Changing your password achieves the same result.
